Open the source file for the mail merge, in excel, then. Save it as a.xls file instead of a.xlsx. Then go back into the Word document, remove the data source and replace it with the new file with the.xls extension. This will make mail merges not object to the Text Converter being absent, and the mail merge will work, this way. At the step in the mail-merge process where you connect to your data file, after you locate the file you want to connect to, the Confirm Data Source dialog box opens. Click “Application via DDE (.???)”, and then click OK.
